Privacy Policy

Introduction
At PasteJet, we believe your privacy is paramount. This Privacy Policy explains how PasteJet (“we”, “us”, or “our”) handles your information when you use our clipboard management application for macOS (the “App”).
The short version: Your clipboard data stays on your Mac. The only exception is the optional Ask AI feature, which sends your selected clipboard item to OpenAI for processing. Neither the sent text nor the AI response is stored on any server.
Information We Don't Collect
PasteJet is designed with privacy as a core principle. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information or usage data. Specifically:
- Clipboard Content: The text and data you copy stays on your Mac. The only exception is when you explicitly use the Ask AI feature, which temporarily sends your selected clipboard item to OpenAI for processing. Neither the sent text nor the response is stored on any server by PasteJet.
- Personal Information: We don't collect your name, email address, or any other personally identifiable information.
- Usage Analytics: We don't track how you use the app, what you copy, or when you use it.
- Crash Reports: We don't automatically collect crash reports or diagnostic data.
- Device Information: We don't collect information about your Mac, operating system version, or hardware specifications.
- Network Activity: The app does not connect to the internet except when you explicitly use the Ask AI feature. No data is transmitted in the background or without your direct action.
How the App Works Locally
PasteJet operates entirely on your Mac using local storage:
- Clipboard Monitoring: The app monitors your system clipboard to detect when you copy new content.
- Local File Storage: Your clipboard history is stored locally on your Mac's file system in a dedicated file within the application's container. Information about your copied items is written to this file and is accessible only by PasteJet.
- Keyboard Monitoring: The app monitors keyboard input to detect the Command+V shortcut. This is done locally and no keystroke data is stored or transmitted.
- No Cloud Sync: Your clipboard history is not synchronized to any cloud service or across devices.
Ask AI Feature
PasteJet includes an optional Ask AI feature that allows you to send a copied clipboard item to OpenAI's API (ChatGPT-5-nano) for AI-powered processing. Here is how it works:
- User-Initiated Only: Data is only sent to OpenAI when you explicitly choose to use the Ask AI feature. No clipboard data is ever sent automatically.
- What Is Sent: Only the specific clipboard item you select is sent to OpenAI's ChatGPT-5-nano endpoint for processing.
- No Storage: Neither the text you send nor the AI response is stored on any server by PasteJet. The response is returned directly to you and exists only locally on your Mac.
- Third-Party Processing: OpenAI processes the request according to their own privacy policy and data handling practices. We encourage you to review OpenAI's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle data.
Permissions Required
PasteJet requires certain system permissions to function properly:
Input Monitoring
Required to detect when you hold Command+V to access your clipboard history. This permission allows the app to monitor keyboard shortcuts but does not give us access to what you type.
Automation (Apple Events)
Required to paste clipboard content into other applications when you select an item from your history.
These permissions are used solely for the app's core functionality and do not enable us to collect any data about you or your usage.
App Sandbox and Security
PasteJet is fully sandboxed in accordance with Mac App Store guidelines. This means:
- The app can only access files and data within its own container.
- The app cannot access your personal files, photos, or documents without explicit permission.
- The app only makes network connections when you explicitly use the Ask AI feature. No background network activity occurs.
- Apple's sandboxing technology provides an additional layer of security and privacy protection.
Data Retention and Deletion
Your clipboard history is stored locally on your Mac. You have complete control over this data:
- The app keeps up to 100 items in your clipboard history by default.
- You can manually delete individual items or clear your entire history at any time from within the app.
- Uninstalling the app removes all clipboard history data from your Mac.
- Your data is never stored by us on any server. Data sent via Ask AI is processed transiently and not stored by PasteJet.
Third-Party Services
PasteJet does not use any analytics platforms or advertising networks. The app operates independently on your Mac with one exception:
- OpenAI: When you use the Ask AI feature, your selected clipboard item is sent to OpenAI's ChatGPT-5-nano API for processing. This is the only third-party service PasteJet communicates with, and only when you explicitly initiate it. Neither the sent data nor the response is stored by PasteJet on any server.
OpenAI's handling of data sent through their API is governed by their own privacy policy.
Children's Privacy
PasteJet does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Because we don't collect data, there is no risk to children's privacy when using our app.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. If we make changes, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy.
Given that we don't collect any data, it's unlikely that any changes would materially affect your privacy. However, we encourage you to review this policy periodically.
Your Privacy Rights
Because PasteJet does not collect, store, or process any personal data about you, traditional data privacy rights (such as the right to access, delete, or port your data) are not applicable in the conventional sense. However:
- You have complete control over your clipboard history data stored locally on your Mac.
- You can delete any or all of your clipboard history at any time through the app interface.
- You can uninstall the app at any time to remove all associated data.
GDPR and CCPA Compliance
PasteJet is compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) by design, as we:
- Do not collect, process, or store any personal data.
- Do not sell personal information (because we don't have any).
- Do not share data with third parties except when you explicitly use the Ask AI feature, which sends your selected item to OpenAI for processing.
- Do not use cookies, tracking technologies, or analytics.

Privacy Policy Summary
PasteJet is designed to be private by default. Your clipboard history is stored locally on your Mac's file system and is never transmitted to our servers. The only network activity occurs when you explicitly use the Ask AI feature, which sends your selected clipboard item to OpenAI for processing — neither the sent text nor the response is stored anywhere by PasteJet. We believe your privacy should be the default, not an option.
